Adopting a Dog from the Hawaii Dog Foundation

Steps to Adopt an HDF dog

The very first step in your adoption process is to fill out the adoption application. If you are interested in a specific dog, please notate this on the application. Unfortunately we are unable to accept applications from persons 21 years of age or younger.  The adoption application is available in PDF format and Word format or you can fill it out online and submit it by clicking here or on the link above. For PDF and Word applications, please print the completed form out and mail it to the address below or email it to  adoptions@hawaiidogfoundation.org.  If you don't know which dog is right for your family, feel free to come to one of our Meet & Greets at the Mililani Dog Park (please see Events Calendar for dates).  We encourage you to bring your own dogs, if any, to the Meet & Greet so that you can see how they get along with the HDF dog.

Once your application has been received, the adoption coordinator/review committee will go over your application and respond via email or phone within 5-10 days. If your application is approved the adoption coordinator will set up a home visit and trial doggy sleep over at your house. Depending on the outcome of the home visit, we will approve the sleep over. The house visit is to ensure that it is a safe environment for your potential pet. You will be notified at this home visit whether or not we feel it is a safe environment.

At the end of the doggy sleep over, we can discuss your options. If you choose to go ahead with the adoption we will schedule any/all necessary medical appointments for the doggy to get his/her medical needs taken care of. Once these appointments are complete, we will call you to set up a date for you to come and sign the adoption agreement and pay the donation ($150.00 adult dogs - $200.00 puppies - Note: HDF requires a $300.00 deposit when adopting any unaltered puppies, aged 12 weeks or less. The deposit will be returned, in full, when the adopted puppies are spayed or neutered.). Once this is complete you may take your new pet home and begin your wonderful lives together.
