Well, it's about time I hang up this old body and
change it in for a new one. I don't wanna leave the
big guy but, hey it's about time he grew up on his
own a little, eh? After all he is gonna be 56! I've
been checking out the web site (Thanks Wiz, for
keeping my dream alive!) It makes me very happy to
see how many of my buddies you guys have rescued!
There have been SO many great people and Dogs
throughout the years in HDF that I don't have time
to thank everyone. It does my heart good to see some
of you working so hard to save us Dogs. I know how
stressful it can be and how frustrating humans, who
don't understand, you are. I'm not too up on the
recent news (NO DOGSHEIMER'S JOKES, PLEASE!) so I
have nothing to report. I'll end by saying I'll let
everyone you know at the other end of Rainbow Bridge
that you guys are OK and still fighting the good
fight. We'll meet again, I'm sure! This wasn't just
for nothing, you know.
Da Beav! signing out and moving on!
It is with great sorrow and a huge hole in my heart
that I 'd like to let you know that the world is a
little darker today as a great soul has transitioned
from our world.
On Sunday January 16, 2011 at 3:20 AM the founder of
HDF passed over Rainbow Bridge. He died in my arms
and on our bed. He didn't suffer until the last hour
and even then he was so strong. For most of the day
he cried every time I stopped petting him. He had
been sick for about 3 months but his pain was
controlled by medication and his care was under the
supervision of Dr. Doi.
I had surrendered the decision making authority of
whether or not to end his life to Dr. Doi and to a
very good friend, Pam Murray, because I knew I
wouldn't be able to think clearly when the time
came. Pam had become his, nurse, his medical
attendant and his Mom over the last few months. She
was also at his side when he passed. We could not
have made it through the last few months without
her.
A lot of great souls have come and gone through
HDF. MANY Dogs have been literally snatched from
death's door by the heroes who have fought the great
fight. Through it all there have been two constants:
The great, selfless, webmaster, the Wiz, John Powers
and the spirit of the founder: Beavis. Every Dog who
has ever been saved by HDF was saved by the
inspiration of Beavis.
My own personal life was in shambles when he bulldozed his way into
it. He adopted me on March 14th 1998. HHS told me he was 5 years old
at the time. So he was around 18 years old when he passed. I have so
many stories that I wouldn't know where to start. He opened the 6:00
PM news with Joe Moore one night when they were doing a story on the
'Dog meat bill'. As was his custom he ran to the front gate of
the Salt Lake Dog Park when the camera men walked in. He put his
face right up to the lens. I was stunned when the News opened
with a close up of Da Beav. Often when I was ranting about something
he would literally sigh and give me a look that would simply say:
'Let me know when this bag of wind blows over'. He was chosen
Honorary Mayor of Country Club Village. He was surrogate family Dog
to countless people in our neighborhood. A lot of you may
remember him. A lot of you touched his life with kindness and he did
the same for you and countless others. I'll keep this short by
saying, if any of you have a Dog rescued by HDF please hug them a
little tighter tonight and look up at the stars and give a 'Mahalo'
to Da Beav. The last weeks of his life he couldn't walk on his own
and I would pick him up and raise him as high as I could and tell
him to look at the stars and the moon and the sky. Tonight he'll be
looking back.
