Where do Hawaii Dog Foundation’s dogs come from?
Answer: Hawaii Dog Foundation works closely with another local non-profit organization, Aloha Animal Outreach. AAO attends multiple houseless communities around the island and provides all of the necessities that dogs need. This includes distributing 600+ lbs of food a month, preventatives like flea, tick, and heartworm, leashes, collars, blankets, towels, bowls etc. AAO also provides a safe environment for dogs to be relinquished or housed if found without an owner. They will work with rescues such as ourselves and other rescues to place dogs into foster homes and find forever homes. SO, what does this mean for breeds? It means that we see a lot of mixed breeds. We don’t always know what the exact breeds are as it is just a best estimated guess. HDF does not normally come by some common breeds that people are interested in, although a possibility with a 1% chance!
